I fear I already know the answer.. but will ask anyway..

Does anyone here use their iPhone on the 3Mobile network? I just recently lost my Nokia N95, and am so tempted to get some touchscreen action, but I was told by some guy at a 3 store, that anything that isn't a 3G phone, won't work with their network. period.

?

nope. 3Mobile uses a SIM that will only work in 3G phones so until a 3G iPhone is release no 3 SIM can be used.

thats the problem i had when i switched to the iPhone...didnt have long left on my contract so didnt have to pay much to cancel.
Well I'm screwed. a year and a half left on my contract. min $30 a month for contract plus $30/month for handset I no longer have.

Rhymes with duck.

How much does it cost to buy out of it?
i just recently found out (like...an hour ago lol) that you can use the a turbosim with a 3G sim card and your iphone will recognise it.

i have 2 lying around in my room...ill test it out and get back to you when i find a SIM i can cut up lol.
not to dispute your wisdom pete, (and correct me if im wrong) but 3 ONLY have 3g networks, where as other telco 3g have the old 2g networks you use to bounce around on – telstra having next G / edge compatible)

as for getitng out of a 3 contract, your MINIMUM monthly spend x how many months left,
i paid out 55 (69 cap) x 12 months... don't tell me the turbosim would actually work

if your right (which i am doubting) and 3mobile works with turbosim then i think i have just spent alot of money to get out of 3 and join telstra – long story short im NOT on a contract and im on the 49 cap.

just confirming that i got the iPhone working with a 3Mobile 3G SIM through turbosim.

although it does work in the iPhone it is constantly roaming on the Telstra 2G network (what it normally does when you are in non-3G areas and does with iPhone because it is 2G) so that means you are limited in some benefits such as free 3 to 3, call rates are higher etc.

also i have come to the conclusion it does not work with every 3 SIM. i have tried about 7 different 3Mobile SIMS (thanks Ken at 3 for supplying) and only 5 out of the 7 worked.
im guessing this has something to do with the manufacture date of SIM as the 5 made before Feb 2008 worked but the 2 from Feb/March did not.

cheers,
Peter
kinda put my mind at ease, but the fact i could have saved the 800 i paid for 2 phones to be out of 3mobile contact still sucks...

cheers norm_

Oh man... now you've got me thinking again..

ESPECIALLY since you can order a refurb 8gb on AT&T's site for $259! It's almost worth it just to try,...

And yeah, it'll cost me almost $1300 to get out of my contract. Driving me crazy...

Time to call up friends in the States....
