Can someone tell me the differences between carriers? Mainly in terms of there network. From what I am reading most seem to say Virgin has the best value for money however telstra is the fastest? Is that true? Also is it true a "three" 3, sim wont work at all in the iphone. sorry if been covered before just collecting info before purchasing. cheers evryone
FBO
ps while on what is everyone paying for what? what is the best plan out there?
Telstra: Only carrier with EDGE (fastest)
3: iPhone won't work on their network
Virgin: Best GPRS plan (not as fast as EDGE)
Optus: Most widely used network
Correct me if I'm wrong
telstra = junk (value for money) and i had to wait on hold for 6 hours and go in store for 2 hrs to get a 49 cap that WASN'T on contract, mean while a guy on the phone offered to it to me 3 times, but couldn't come through with the goods... now that i have it, my reception still isn't as good as other telstra Next G phones, but i have an iPhone so

i win..
i rate optus, no hassle bang for your buck, decent reception, just not fast net

Optus has good coverage but their customer service is disgusting.
I just changed to Virgin (am waiting for my account name to be changed at Optus so I can bring my number over). I had to call four times as first they failed to send me the letter in the mail, then stuffed up my email address twice to send me the form. I went into an Optus store on Saturday and done it over the counter and they said I would receive an SMS when its completed.
Still haven't got that SMS. If I have to ring for a fifth time I'm going to kill someone.
how much faster is telstra internet to virgin?
I would mainly only use the email function. To get emails. Would there be much difference with email speeds? and does getting emails count as your download usage?
and ps what about vodaphone???
well telstra uses edge while virgin is still on GPRS.
GPRS isnt that slow (well i dont think it is with optus to just surf the net) but it does cost a bit.
to check my email with optus costs about 50 cents each time it refreshes.
vodafone is good but you cant use the net on iPhone if you have prepaid.
i personally think the best way to go is with Optus Turbocharge. if you pay $40 you get $200 to use on pretty much anything (GPRS, calls, sms etc) then $40 optus to optus.
i checked my emails through Mail on the iPhone every day for a month and cost me around $8. but that depends how much it has to download (more email, more kbs downloaded)
optus has very high call rates though
if you planning to get a data plan then virgin is probably the best option as it is the cheapest.
Virgin has the best rates at $10.00 per month for 300mb then 1.5c per kb after that. As Virgin uses the Optus network is it able to be used with the iphone ? Also how do you set up the phone to connect to Virgin, is it the same as other carriers and you just insert the sim.
to connect to virgin you have to insert the right gprs settings (known as edge to the iphone even though it isnt)
settings are in another post. will also be compiling list soon of all carrier settings to get gprs up and running
