hi
i was very happy when i came across this forum. i am a mac man. i own 2 of their great computers. a few months ago my wife and i decided to get smart phones. we bought the palm treo 750. i used it for a few weeks before i removed my sim and went back to my old nokia. My wife is still loving her palm but i just could not get my head around the thing. i am very keen to get my hands on an iphone but need to wait until the price comes down.
lets hope the iphone makes it to australia soon.
hey man!
Welcome to the iPhoneAE forums.
the palm treo 750's..think my dad had one of them...he hated it too lol
how much are you looking at spending on iphone? if you have been looking on ebay those prices are bogus. haha
have fun on the forums....post heaps lol.
cheers,
Peter
gday mate
i was going to wait until they came down to around 400 but i might be old and grey before that happens. do you know if the ebay bought phones are ok to use here. i have been going through the threads and all i can see is happy iphone buyers. true? i guess i am a bit worried about buying again after my palm treo experience
probably wont go down to 400 unless apple does another $100 price drop for the 8gb. otherwise cheapest you can get them for is around $500AUD for an 8gb or $600 for a 16gb.
most of the time when you buy an iphone from ebay they are already unlocked and all you have to do is put your sim card in but sometimes the sellers can be dodgy and not fully change them to australian format meaning contacts dont match up, times wrong etc.
can easily be fixed up with easy restore and unlock that takes around 15 minutes and then just changing of some simple system files that you can get off the net (i have a whole set that you replace with originals that set it up fully for australia)
hope that helps
cheers,
Peter
honestly unless you know someone in the u.s you'll be lucky at 600 for a 16gb...
i know they cost 550 (roughly) aud to buy over there, but shipping ($44.00 to syd from NY) + taxes + duties will get you
im shipping two in to aus at roughly 750 ea, + shipping...
and ebayers are just in it for the money, i called about 8 or 9 and the lowest i got was 850+shipping... so don't bother.
best bet is to get someone you know in the u.s to buy one for you, and they need a u.s credit card to buy it from an apple store!
i ended up getting mine for 700 USD a piece, even that i think is expensive! but not to be on a contract with telstra, and to have it now, worth it!
also when it comes out here, don't think like the u.s we'll be able to buy in store and take home to activate, carrier (prolly telstra) + apple will have you in store to sign up etc...
ill get my iphones 28feb, unlocked and ready to go (ill australianise) but if you aren't technical then might be easier to just pay that extra and rest assured it will work 100%...
good luck!
maybe you can get a 4gb cheap (if they are still around!)
lowest i just spotted was an 8gb for 640+ shipping in melb...
