i have been informed by someones selling iphones that using ziphone to unlcok my iphone will render it useless to future upgrades, is this true, the person said (with no confidence in what he was saying) that ZiPhone was a last resort, that because it messes with the baseband that future upgrades would not be able to be installed.

is this true?
he then proceeded to try and sell hyper card to me... not too sure what this is.

i would like to know my options before unlocking, to ensure i don't buy a phone that can't be upgraded in the future

any info is greatly appreciated!

Hey Bill,

ZiPhone is the same unlock as the new AnySim 1.3 and also geohotz new unlock, there all the same. The difference is that these new unlocks are more like the iPhoneSimFree unlock method a more "true" unlock. For instance, i unlocked my iphone was upgraded from 1.1.1 without virginizing first to 1.1.3 using i tunes then unlocked using ZiPhone. Worked perfect but out of curiosity i restored it using itunes again to 1.1.3. any the strangest thing was that all though the iphone wasn't activated or jailbraked it was still unlocked but at the slide for emergency screen. i could even ring it! and answer it!

Now that there is this new software unlock, the sellers of chip sims are pissed as now we don't need them to unlock our iPhones and there loosing out on there sales as many have invested big money in the business.

You should not be worried about any of the new software unlocks, As with the older ones, when a new firmware comes out from apple, you wait a while and a new work around is found, its only ever a matter of time.

And just to put things in perspective, when you buy a normal phone you never get any upgrades and your usually stuck with it for 2 years! Even if i cant upgrade for 2 years I'm not sure it would really bother me coz its just such a cool phone.

Take the plunge.

great news, ive done a lot of research and i figured this guy just needed to sell his hypercards Tongue
