Hey Guys.

My name is Fabian, and i'm living in Tassie. Bought my 4GB iPhone off ebay about 5 months back. Recently, my iPhone has been locking up and freezing at least once every 4 minutes, and it's pretty much got to the stage where it's unusable and i'm using a crappy old Nokia instead.

If I restore my iPhone back to it's pre-unlocked AT&T stage, will apple Australia repair it?

Thanks for any info guys, i'm seriously desperate now!Wink
hey Fabian.
nope, apple australia will not repair it. because we never had the first generation iPhone here Apple wont help you out in anyway.

the best way to fix it would either look around at a few websites on how to restore (guide here has step-by-step instructions)
or otherwise...if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself (can sometimes mess up your phone if u do it wrong) then lots of people offer a repair service (around $80 - $100)

and if after all that you dont feel like trying urself or paying someone to fix it you can always send it for me for repair. i offer free repair for all iPhoneAE members including the australianising of your phone.

cheers,
Peter
Yeah i've restored it heaps of times, i'm quite tech savvy so i've tried all the usual methods.

Usually it'd only lock up if I installed a couple of third party apps, which I thought was weird, but I learnt to live with it. I might try downgrading firmware and see if that does anything.

Otherwise I might look into these repair places
Hi Fabian,

I live in Tassie, purchased my iPhone of ebay last November and I am having similar issues with my phone. My phone occassionaly freezes, it keeps 'looping' (?) until it re-boots itself, it is happening more frequently, about 4 to 5 times a day and it's very frustrating.

I am at the stage where I need to do something about it, but I have no idea what... so if anyone has any suggestions and/or direction, I would appreciate it.

I should also state that I am NOT so tech savvy but would appreciate any assistance and I thankyou in anticipation....
What kind of unlock methods are you guys using?

Some methods are not as good as others and can sometimes cause real trouble functioning.

Method i would recommend is PwnageTool. Simple, fast, and doesnt mess too much with system files (well...it does..but in a good way)
Thanks for your time ...

I purchased my iPhone unlocked, although my phone loops then re-boots itself frequently I have not locked it up (pls excuse my wording, as I said b4 I'm NOT tech savvy at all!).

Phone details are: iPhone 8GB, Model MA712LL; Version 1.1.1 (3A109a); Telstra (I have not managed to connect to internet, only use phone and for SMS)

I have chosen not to download newer versions, I worry about stuffing or locking it up. iPhone is, as it was when I received it.

Phone was working fine, the looping issue started approximatley late January and is becoming more frequent. When the phone freezes I press the home and on/off button together, hold until the apple logo appears, phone then re-starts.

Thanks again for your time, I do appreciate it! ...
I have come across this in the past, i think i have done everything possible to me iPhone. I think the best was to repair it would be to upgrade the iphone to 1.1.4 using itunes (if itunes doesn't recognise your iphone you may need to stick it in recovery mode). Then using the pwnagetool, pwn your iphone and create a custom firmware then use itunes to load it.

Everything i have ever seen done to an iphone has been repaired by 1.1.4 and a good unlock. This should do it for you.

Here are some simple instructions from iclarified.com
