Is anyone using their iPhone on Telstra and using the free Bigpond services? I'm running (and luvin') my new 16Gb iPhone on Telstra's Next G network. After much kerfuffle with my original GSM card on which you cannot purchase a Telstra data pack (if only the first SEVEN Telstra staff I spoke to at the shop and on the phone had known that!).
Telstra data browsing is waaay expensive so I thought I'd sample some of their free fare for Next G customers at wap.bigpond.com but I get a 403 IP Forbidden error. I'm assuming they issue a different IP range to their HSDPA and Edge data browsers, does anyone know anything about this, like a way around it
?
its wap.telstra.com, not sure if it will work still but thats what it is on my (SE K850i) phone

Sorry, probably didn't make myself clear. I can access Edge OK at wap.telstra, and browse the web. I'm talking about browsing to Bigpond with Safari to the pages that are not counted as downloads against the Telstra data pack. On Telstra Next G phones these are accessed through a widget type thing but they are just web pages and should theoretically be browsable but it appears to require authentication.
Thanks tallinex but the address refuses connection. I found a post in Whirlpool that suggests Telstra use a wap proxy for Next G browsing at 10.1.1.181 port 80 but I can find no way in the network or Safari settings on the iPhone to set that up. Dug up a hack for another US based network that says you can modify a file called proxy.pac in the Safari root directory but haven't got the tools to try this out yet.
I typed the address (
http://wap.telstra.com/wap) into my iPod touch and it did work, kind of, it looked a lot different, my friend told me thats what it looks like on a 2G phone.
Maybe when the 3G iphone comes out (if it comes to telstra) you might be able to get them to help you.
sounds like you're trying to connect to the 3g services using a 2g phone..
more like trying to connect to a web site useing a web browser
