Call me rabid Kiss fan and an Apple iPhone tragic, but every time I see someone with an iPhone, I must make conversation with them. I tell them how I had one, but at the time 1.1.3 was not cracked and looked like by the time that had happened it would have been released locally. Surely Apple wouldn't miss out on selling a 2.5G phone and a 3G phone in Australia...
Move forward 3 months and I inadvertently wind up changing seats on a plane to sit with a colleague and end up next to a guy making calls on an iPhone about equipment arriving at Acer Arena for the 20th of March. The same day as the Kiss concert I had a ticket for.
So naturally enough I started a conversation with him about all things iPhone and Kiss.
Turns out "Spud" is a Burbank California based production supervisor for the company filming the current Kiss tour in HD downunder! More than that, he used to grow up less than 3 km from where I grew up, went to high school with my sisters ex boyfriend and my best friends dad used to teach him in Phys Ed!
Well Spud took my card and didn't promise anything, and I wasn't holding my breath to avoid disappointment.
Half an hour to show time and no word from Spud.
Suddenly an anonymous phone call appears.....
Spud has remembered and has made contact! We meet up on the auditorium floor and he takes me and my mate under the main stands and puts an access all areas sticker on us and says,"Follow me"
The rest is Kisstory!
We walk into a corridor outside 4 dressing rooms marked Eric, Tommy, Paul and Gene. Then Gene walks out of another room where the pre show party was on followed by the rest of the band!
We got to have our pics taken with them and generally just be there! Then Spud took us and gave us seats on road cases next to the sound desk. 4 songs in he took us in front of the barrier at the front of the stage and I was right in front of Gene when he breathed fire!
We then went back to the sound desk for the rest of the concert until the last 2 songs when we were ushered back to the front barrier again. At the end of the show, Spud got us some guitar picks and the song list from next to Gene's mike!
All in all, a 30 year Kiss fans dreams came true!
...and all because Steve Jobs wanted a cool phone.
