Hi guys Smile so embaressing to ask this..

I bought a 16gb iphone. I love it. Everything works great, and if these problems cant be solved I can easily work around them,

1. I cannot seem to get my old sim card contacts up. I assume this is the same for everyone, and there is a way to fix this.. any clues?

2. The GPS doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong (ie; need to actually connect the service?)

I think that's about it.. for now, I'll chime in if I have any new ones. Smile Thanks! sorry if I'm asking old questions, feel free to point me to the thread and tell me to use the search function (better than i was)
Iphone doesn't support sim card contacts, however you can install a program called iSim (via Installer) that will add this functionality. as for the GPS iPhone doesn't have GPS, but does have fake GPS via cell towers, not sue how to fix this (need more info, what Baseband/Modem, what firmware) I would advise following Normal_Guys guide on this forum to set up your iPhone, and see if this helps.

Jack
I was going through the Australianisation part, the guide was great, thanks..I bought this already unlocked too

Just downloading the BSD package now, seems like it will take a while. Will get back if I have any further issues, thanks for the pointer.

Your right, its not an actual GPS just google maps (which is still very cool) and I imagine there'd be someway to 'save' a map or journey, not quite the same, but better than a freaking street directory. Smile

Update

---

It's all good. The wifi was running weird.. I just re-established the connection, and it worked much better ,and also added a proxy server in as Optus's international has been pretty screwed lately and that could have caused the issues trying to connect to the Installer services..

I've got a few minor apps on, etc etc.

Only issue remaining is getting my contacts over.. I read the guide and couldn't find anything relating to that, I imagine I can get an app from installer, I'm at work so I'll look further into it..

The more I play, the more I love it.. a few people picked up on the fact it was an iPhone this morning on the train, kinda cool Smile
is your old sim card 3g? if so you wont get the contacts off, i had to go through a legnthy process of doing it through iSync:

installing the plugin for my nokia
copy contacts over (iSync adds the m to the address book)
the nin iTunes selecting add Addressbook contacts to my iphone

worked a charm once i got the plug in for my exact nokia, hardest part is getting isync to work Smile
I dont have a 3g sim. I have a standard Vodafone prepaid sim,

Ill keep trying
Heh it's fine. Just needed to research more.

iSim worked fine for copying the contacts over. Took about a minute.

I love this thing. Wink

*TIP* I have found that doing the full discharge/ recharge has made the battery life much better. I ran it overnight on the weekends with the iPod playing just sound turned off to run it out.

They should make a program designed to run your battery down. Smile
flashlight + loud music could do it.....
(flashlight is a toy on installer)
